Thinking about Joining Sligo Credit Union?

Thinking about Joining Sligo Credit Union?

Are you thinking about switching financial providers in the coming months? We have 10 reasons, which might help you decide to choose Sligo Credit Union over another organisation.

1. Not-for-Profit
Sligo Credit Union has been serving its Members since 1965, and is a not-for-profit financial cooperative, which answers to our Members. Unlike banks, we do not have outside shareholders who exist solely to make profit. We are owned and controlled by you, our Members, and we have a full range of financial services that operate on a not-for-profit basis - see here. Plus, Credit Unions, as a national entity, including Sligo Credit Union, maintained their top spot for Best Customer Experience for the 8th year in a row at the CXi awards in 2022. This is a testament to the overall excellence in credit unions.

2. Loans
We have a wide range of loans at different rates available for Members to choose from, including Car/Green Car, Home Improvement, Green Home Improvement, Education, Community and Personal Loans. We lend approximately €20 million to our members in Sligo and Leitrim every year! The maximum loan amount that Members can avail of is €75,000. P.S. Did you know that you can join us and apply for a loan on the same day? No savings record or waiting period is required.

3. Current Account
Introducing Current Accounts: Say goodbye to excessive maintenance charges! At Sligo Credit Union, we are always thinking of ways to make your life that little bit easier. Simply tap and go to access funds from anywhere. Also, our monthly maintenance fee is €4 - apply online today.

4. Savings
Credit Unions are safe for your savings, and we encourage members to save regularly with us via Direct Debit, Standing Order or inhouse. The Deposit Guarantee Scheme (DGS) protects depositors in the event of a credit union authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland being unable to repay deposits. The DGS is administered by the Central Bank of Ireland and is funded by the credit institutions covered by the scheme, including credit unions.

5. Technology
With 24/7 online banking in place, along with our mobile APP - available on Google Play and Apple Store - Sligo Credit Union is here for you. Not only are we available online, but we have a dedicated Member Services team ready to help you. #DidYouKnow that approximately 10K of our members are currently using the APP!

6. Equal Opportunities
Whether you have €6 or €10,000 in your account, you will have the same say as any other Member determining the direction of your credit union. #OneMemberOneVote

7. Community
Credit unions live on the main street in your town, city or village and are not controlled by investors seeking high profits. Sligo Credit Union’s ethos is to serve the needs of our community, while treating people with dignity and respect. In 2020, we moved into our new building on Wine Street, which was specifically designed to offer our Members more comfort, privacy and space. Additionally, credit unions foster a sense of community among their Members, and we continually invest in the local Sligo community via donations, Sponsorship, and our Community Fund.

8. Member Value
Sligo Credit Union employs a team of approximately 30 staff to look after all Member needs. If you ever need to speak to our Member Service team, you can phone them on 071-9317500 or email info@sligocu.ie.

9. A Credit Union is For Everyone
Most people do not realise that they qualify for membership. There are still eligibility rules - Sligo Credit Union’s Common Bond - which are based on where you live, work or go to school. See how easy it is to join our credit union!
