Sligo Credit Union Announces First-Ever Brand Ambassador

19th October 2023: Olympic boxer, Dean Clancy has been named as Sligo Credit Union’s first ever Brand Ambassador. This is in line with the credit union's new Sports Bursary programme, which aims to inspire young people in the field of sports in Sligo and Leitrim.

“I’ve always set high expectations for myself, and to be training for the 2024 Olympics in Paris and be appointed as Sligo Credit Union’s first Brand Ambassador, is the product of hard work and a dream since I was 10 years old,” said Dean. “To me, Sligo Credit Union stands for both community and promoting financial well-being, and I’m very excited to be a new addition to the team as a Brand Ambassador!”

Sligo’s first-ever Olympic qualified boxer, Dean Clancy holds the number one status as Ireland’s best 63.5kg. Dean’s latest goal of securing a medal at the Olympics sees him travelling to intensive training camps every week, including the Sports Ireland Campus in Dublin.

“Dean is a remarkable talent in his field, and we know he’s only going to continue to rise to new heights. We first spotted this talent when a 15-year-old Dean approached us for sponsorship in 2017!” said Shona Heffernan, Sligo Credit Union’s Chairperson.

“Through Sligo Credit Union’s new Sports Bursary initiative, Dean has our unwavering support throughout his journey, pre and post Olympics. We can all see the drive and passion that Dean has for boxing, and he is a worthy recipient of our first Sports Bursary. We are thrilled to welcome Dean to our team!”

Since 1965, Sligo Credit Union has been an integral part of the Sligo and Leitrim communities, with various initiatives and projects such as Education Bursaries, Sponsorship, Community Funds, and the new Sports Bursary scheme. Additionally, Sligo Credit Union provides valuable current account and loan services to its 27K active members.
Sligo Credit Union Sports Bursary / Brand Ambassador Programme:
Sligo Credit Union has introduced a Sports Bursary programme to provide assistance to elite athletes who are excelling at the highest national and international levels of sports and have a specific sporting objective, within the credit union's Common Bond.

The financial value of each Sports Bursary is assessed on an individual basis, and will depend on the athlete’s achievements, potential, and need requirements, and it is there to support with training and competition costs.

In return, the chosen athlete will be Sligo Credit Union’s Brand Ambassador for the duration of the contract and will perform certain services in connection with Sligo Credit Union, including consistent support and promotion of the credit union at in-person events and on social media channels.
